Hello! I'd like to introduce myself to you. I am a
relatively RATIONAL PERSON. I'm mostly happy, modestly
achieving, fairly well respected in my community, and I have
reasonably good personal relationships.

BUT, like everyone else, I run into my share of problems
with life. The object of this game is to put yourself into
my shoes. You score points by guessing or learning my
feelings and thought processes as I experience a wide
variety of wholly possible situations.

First, "THE SITUATION" is presented at the top of the
screen. You then have the option of selecting a menu of my
THOUGHTS or FEELINGS about that situation. If you want to see
a menu of things I might tell myself in my mind (THINK) first,
then hit <Return>. If you want to guess how I would FEEL
first, then hit the space bar followed by <Return>.

No matter which option you select, if you choose the more
rational answer (in my opinion) first, you earn 10 points.
If you choose the more rational answer the second time you
earn 5 points. If you miss on the second try, I tell you my
answer and the game continues, no harm done (and no points
earned).

Now that you know you know what I'm either FEELING (if you
choose FEELINGS first) or THINKING (if you choose THOUGHTS
first) in the situation, you are presented with four
alternatives of what I had to THINK in order to produce the
feeling(s) I had, or with four alternative FEELINGS which
the thought would produce about the situation.

Again, you earn 10 points for being right on the first try,
and 5 points for being right on the second try. Otherwise,
I'll tell you the answer and you can try again with another
situation (or stop playing at this point). Thus, there's a
chance to earn up to 20 points for each situation presented.

So, put on your thinking cap (or, better yet, mine), and get
ready for your first situation. You may stop the game at the
conclusion of any situation. You may then choose to save
your scores, enabling you to continue from where you left
off, or to end the game without saving anything.

STARTING PLAY

Following the title and instructions screens you will be
asked whether you want to begin a (N)ew game (choose "N") or
(R)esume a previous game (choose "R").

If you choose "N", a brand new game (Score = 0, Situation
#1) is initiated. Since the SITUATIONs are presented in
random order, no two games will be the same. Any game can
be saved to disk for later play whenever the "Q" or Quit
option is selected at the end of any SITUATION.

If you choose "R" you are presented with a catalog of
previous games saved (in the same directory as the program)
from which you may choose the one you wish to resume. Select
it by typing the CAPITAL letter next to its name. You
will then see the next SITUATION and choose the play option.
We think it's more fun to play the THOUGHTS first.

QUITTING PLAY

When you select the "Q" key at the end of playing any
SITUATION, you will have the opportunity to (E)nd
the game without saving your current score and place
in the game to disk for later resumption (choose "E").

If you select to (S)ave it (by choosing the "S" key), you will be
asked to supply a name for the disk file of your game so far.
Be sure to select a unique name, fifteen letters or less, so that
you don't wipe out a previous game, yours or someone else's. If
you are already playing a previously saved game, just hit <Return>
when asked for a name, and your current place in the game will be
saved with the same name it had before.
